Ugandan born Jenifa Mayanja has been part of the underground electronic deep house music scene in New York for the last fifteen plus years. Her reputation while firmly cemented in New York circles as a dj/artist/producer unafraid to break down genres in her sets and produce music not easily definable as "deep house", most outside of that circle have been largely unaware of Ms. Mayanja.Through a natural progression, Jenifa felt the need to create a platform for her own musical point of view through parties and eventually a record label. The Bu-Mako parties which were held in private spaces around New York cemented her brand as a free thinker along the way getting write ups in "TimeOut NY and New York Magazine. In late 2006 the Bu-mako recordings label was borne with the release of the "Stream of consciousness" album featuring many of the musical ideas that Jenifa loved and was well known for in her dj sets. The label has received its share of press, in Resident Advisor, Little White Earbuds and a recent article in Igloo Magazine describes the label this way, "Bu-mako is not creating sounds of stripped down space excursions or a lulling reaction to social issues, Bu-Mako comes from a new age aspect. It is a label that promulgates life, wholeness and musical exploration". Jenifas most current collaborations include Isoul8 aka Volcov, Marco Nega, remixes for Fred P aka Black Jazz Consortium, DJ Jus-Ed, and Anton Zap Also a full length album from Jenifa is on track for release in May of 2011 with special vinyl remixes by Dj Jus-Ed and Kai Alce. Along with that Jenifa holds down her own radio show
